BWC permanent administrator search committee announced

COLUMBUS (June 17, 2005) – Governor Taft today announced the appointment of Karen J. Huey as his new liaison to the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC). In this new role, Huey will report directly to the Governor and serve as his liaison to BWC management, stakeholders, the BWC Oversight Commission, and the newly formed BWC Management Review Team.

Huey, an attorney with a degree from Capital University Law School and business administration degree from The Ohio State University has been the Director of the Office of Criminal Justice Services since November 2003. She previously served as Deputy Chief of Staff in the offices of Attorney General and Auditor of State.

“Karen is a proven manager and problem solver,” said Taft. “She will be focused on both daily monitoring helping the Bureau’s efforts to identify and fix its investment problems and working with BWC management to maintain its world-class service to injured workers and employers.”

Taft also named members of a committee to identify a permanent BWC administrator. Members of the committee will be:

James B. Bachman, retired managing partner of the Columbus office of Ernst and Young.
Tom Hayes, Director of the Ohio Lottery Commission and chair of the Governor’s BWC Management Review Team.
Bill Wilkins, Ohio’s Tax Commissioner.

The Governor indicated that additional search committee members may be named at a later date.

“It is critical that we quickly identify a highly qualified and experienced manager to lead BWC on a permanent basis,” added Taft. “I know that this excellent group of professionals will work diligently to identify a talented pool of candidates.”
